  • Early Beginnings: While Hermès was founded in 1837 as a harness and saddlery maker, its journey into perfumery began with confidential, tailor-made special orders in the 1930s.

  • First Fragrance: The official entry into the commercial perfume market occurred in 1951 with the launch of the unisex scent Eau d'Hermès, created by the legendary perfumer Edmond Roudnitska. This fragrance was designed to evoke the subtle, spicy aroma of the inside of an empty Hermès leather bag, a tribute to the brand's equestrian roots.

  • Establishment: The perfume business was transferred to a dedicated subsidiary, Comptoir Nouveau de la Parfumerie, and over the decades, a "precious library" of fragrances was built
